The vehicle was recovered from the scene and Lane 1 of the carriageway remains closed to allow the damage to the barrier to be assessed and repairs to take place.

Traffic flow may be slower than usual and we'd like to thank any motorists affected for their patience.

A spokesperson for North East Ambulance Service said, "We were called to a road traffic incident on the A19 near North Tees Industrial Estate shortly after 4am on 27 July.

We dispatched a double crewed ambulance and one patient was taken to North Tees Hospital."

The lane closure near the Portrack exit has caused delays throughout the morning on the northbound carriageway.

The AA reported delays of up to 12 minutes, with average speeds dropping to around 10-15 mph in the affected section between the Mandale Interchange and Portrack Interchange.

Earlier on Monday, the A19 northbound was fully closed but has since been partially reopened with lane one still closed for safety inspections.

There is currently no estimated time for when the lane will reopen.
