Chantal Westerhoff from the police noted the challenge of gathering information due to fear among locals.
"There is fear among the people in the neighborhood," she said, urging witnesses to help the investigation.
Burgemeester Anko Postma of Tubbergen acknowledged the unease in the village and confirmed ongoing contact with the family and local professionals.
"The safety and support of the family and the neighborhood are our priorities," he said, indicating increased police patrols in the area following a recent meeting with law enforcement and the public prosecutor.
It remains uncertain whether the family will relocate.

If they do, the house is intended to be occupied by other residents with a similar protected status.
