Property damage was confined mainly to natural terrain, with no structural loss to residential buildings reported.
"They are things that can be replaced. But it’s not the relaxing day we thought we’d be having," Gordon said.
Visibility dropped rapidly near the perimeter as emergency services coordinated vehicular escorts.
"It was only as we walked to reception to meet the police that all of a sudden it kind of hit us," Gordon said.
Local police and fire units systematically cleared high-risk areas as winds shifted on Wednesday evening.
"So where we were it didn’t seem too bad at all. We weren’t really panicking at all," Gordon said.
Thick smoke ultimately covered the main exit routes, forcing swift action from emergency personnel.
"But as we got to sort of the reception and the entrance, then the smoke hit and we had to drive with the police through quite a lot of smoke," Gordon said.

Support crews from the London Fire Brigade, including six fire appliances, joined the local response teams to maintain containment lines through Friday.
