With that pack, the GTD produces 1,951 lbs (885 kg) of downforce at 180 mph (290 kmh).

The GTD also has wider tires (32 mm front, 345 mm rear) compared to the AMG's 305/335 setup, and it is around 3.5 inches (90 mm) broader despite a 6-inch (155 mm) shorter wheelbase.

At 4,343 lbs (1,970 kg), the GTD is heavier than the 4,780 lbs (1,895 kg) CLE 646, though AMG claims to have cut 375 lbs (170 kg) from a stock CLE.

Engine and Performance

The CLE 646 debuts AMG's new M177 Evo, a 4.0-liter flat-plane crank V8 that produces 637 hp (646 PS) and 627 lb-ft (850 Nm).

AMG claims a 0-62 mph (100 kmh) time of 3.9 seconds and a top speed of 193 mph (310 kmh).

The Mustang GTD uses a 5.2-liter supercharged V8 rated at 815 hp (826 PS) and 664 lb-ft (900 Nm).

Ford does not quote a 0-60 mph time but acknowledges a 202 mph (325 kmh) top speed, and independent tests suggest the GTD runs the stoplight test in less than 3 seconds.

The GTD also lapped the Nürburgring in 6:40.835 in its most extreme Competition trim, which brings a hotter tune and even more aero.

AMG has not revealed a Ring time yet, but given the power deficit, it may struggle to out-hustle the GTD.

The GTD's performance is aided by an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission mounted at the rear axles for 50:50 weight distribution, while the AMG places 56 percent of its mass over the nose.

The Mustang also features pushrod Multimatic spool-valve adaptive dampers, visible through a window in the rear firewall.

The AMG uses a front-mounted eight-speed auto, KW coilovers, and four-way adjustable dampers, and it ditches 4MATIC all-wheel drive for a lighter rear-wheel drive setup.

Interior shots of the AMG confirm the CLE has been seriously upgraded, though full details are not yet available.
