Ukrainian tennis player Marta Kostyuk advanced to the second round of Roland Garros on May 24, 2026, after defeating Oksana Selekhmeteva 6-2, 6-3 in Paris.
The world No. 15 secured the victory in her first tournament since winning the WTA 1000 title in Madrid earlier this month.

Kostyuk hit 20 winners, including 12 off her forehand, to set up a second-round match against either Katie Volynets or Clara Burel.
The win extended her unbeaten clay-court streak to 12 matches, following her previous title success in Rouen.
Injury Concerns Ahead of Paris
Prior to her arrival in Paris, Kostyuk withdrew from the WTA 1000 tournament in Rome due to a right hip injury and lingering ankle issues.
She sustained the injury during her title run in Madrid, where she won six matches in two weeks.
During an appearance on Andy Roddick's tennis podcast, Kostyuk shared details regarding the severity of her hip condition following the Madrid final.
"My hip was not good at all. It was not good for the past three matches.

After I woke up after the finals, I couldn't walk," Kostyuk said.
"I did an MRI and it wasn't bad, but it wasn't as good as we wanted it to be.
It made no sense to push for Rome because I knew maybe I could play one match, but then I don't know what would happen.
I'm happy I made that decision."
The victory marks only the second time in five years that the 23-year-old has passed the opening round at Roland Garros.
Kostyuk has historically experienced limited success at the French Open, with her best result being a single appearance in the round of 16.

She enters the remaining rounds of the 2026 tournament looking to maintain her form if her hip remains stable.
