Among the participants was 57-year-old Glenn Lankowski from Hamburg, New York, who completed his 130th lifetime marathon.

"This will be number seven for me in Buffalo," Lankowski told WGRZ-TV on Friday.

Lankowski, now residing in South Carolina, started distance running two decades ago with his wife to stay active outside their sedentary government jobs.

He has maintained a consistent racing schedule since 2006, averaging nearly seven marathons per year, and achieved his goal of 100 marathons in Lake Placid, New York.

"I really had a goal of just 100 and I was lucky to do that one up in Lake Placid, New York.

And then I thought, is this where I just stop running? And that just didn't sound right," he said.

Lankowski cited mental benefits, camaraderie, and charitable components as reasons for continued participation.

"It keeps my Zen … my peace," he said, adding that he enjoys the excitement and fundraising efforts associated with marathons.

He completed the Cleveland Marathon one week prior and plans to finish five more marathons before the end of 2026.

"I don't do them as speedy as I used to. Slow and steady and I kind of enjoy it.

That way you get a little more recognition at the end," Lankowski said.

He remains open about future goals, noting his current pace allows personal time between events.

"I like leaving that open. I have no goal other than to keep marching on.

I'm still capable of doing 10 per year, so that still gives me over 40 weekends off, and that's not bad," he said.

The flat loop course historically produces high qualification rates, with approximately 10% to 11% of full marathon runners meeting Boston Marathon entry standards, according to wyrk.

Participants noted the route's architectural and environmental advantages, including Frank Lloyd Wright-designed houses, Delaware Park, and waterfront districts.

Organized by the Buffalo-Erie Marathon Association, the weekend featured eight events timed by Score This.
