Japan and Tunisia will meet in a critical Group F match at Monterrey's Estadio BBVA on June 21, 2026, a fixture that marks the 1,000th game in World Cup history.

The Samurai Blue enter the contest as favorites after a 2-2 draw against the Netherlands, where Daichi Kamada scored an 89th-minute equalizer.

Statistics from FOX Sports show Japan remains a second-half team, scoring nine of their last 10 World Cup goals after halftime.

According to The Athletic's projection model, Japan currently holds an 85 percent chance of advancing past the group stage.

Hajime Moriyasu's squad previously controlled 52 percent possession in the second half of their opening fixture.

Tunisia's Rapid Restructuring

Tunisia is restructuring rapidly after a 5-1 loss to Sweden, their largest-ever margin of defeat at the tournament.

The loss prompted the federation to dismiss manager Sabri Lamouchi just one game into the tournament.

Before his sudden dismissal, Lamouchi reflected briefly on his short-lived tenure. "I will try not to complain … just enjoy the present," he said.

Following the heavy defeat, Tunisian defender Omar Rekik publicly apologized to the nation for the team's performance. The tactical display drew immediate criticism from traveling supporters.

"No tactics, no structure and no identity — just chaos," a Tunisia supporter told The Athletic.

Hervé Renard has been appointed as Tunisia's new head coach for the remainder of the tournament. Renard previously managed Saudi Arabia during their victory over Argentina in 2022.

The match kicks off at 10 p. m.

local time in Guadalupe, Mexico, where the stadium is renamed Estadio Monterrey for FIFA tournament purposes.
