The Anaheim Ducks are exploring trade options for center Mason McTavish during the 2026 NHL off-season.

A proposed deal with the Montreal Canadiens has emerged as a creative solution to address roster needs for both teams.

Proposed Trade Details

According to an ESPN trade proposal by Kristen Shilton, the Canadiens would acquire McTavish from Anaheim.

In return, the Ducks would receive defenseman David Reinbacher, a 2026 second-round pick, and a 2026 fourth-round pick.

The trade comes amid a shallow free agency market, making swaps more attractive for franchises looking to improve.

McTavish's Value and Recent Performance

The 23-year-old center ranks fifth on insider Chris Johnston's trade board, per The New York Times.

He finished a difficult season with 17 goals and 41 points in 75 games, down from a career-high 52 points in 2024-25.

McTavish carries a $7 million annual salary cap hit through 2030-31, following a six-year, $42 million contract signed less than a year ago.

This creates significant financial stakes for any acquiring team.

He struggled with footspeed and defensive positioning under a high-pace system, leading to several healthy scratches.

However, his status as a former third-overall pick makes him an attractive reclamation project for transitioning teams like Montreal, Detroit, Pittsburgh, or Philadelphia.
