He later dismissed criticism with sarcasm during a 2024 press availability: "Let's just tear the damn stadium down and build another one.

Are you kidding me?"

The facility is hosting nine total World Cup matches, but tournament scheduling indicates this was the sole fixture requiring the protective black drapes.

Cowboys head coach Brian Schottenheimer noted that the coaching staff accounts for environmental conditions during standard game preparation.

"But I think when you look at historically at what's happened it really hasn't affected many situations," said Schottenheimer.

The coach defended the architectural design despite recurring complaints from offensive players.

"We plan for it. The opponents plan for it.

But at the end of the day, it's something that we're aware of. It's very beautiful.

It's majestic when the sun comes through there," said Schottenheimer.

Stadium attendee Jesse Nunez from Austin observed the changes and voiced support for the sun-blocking measures.

"I think they should do it for the football games, I've seen plays where you can see the players actively can't see," said Nunez.
