The San Jose Sharks made history on Saturday by selecting defenseman Alexander Karmanov with the 201st overall pick in the seventh round of the NHL draft.
Standing at 7-foot-1, Karmanov is officially the tallest player ever selected in an NHL draft, according to league announcements.

Karmanov also became the first Moldovan-born player ever chosen in an NHL draft, as reported by Bleacher Report.
The defenseman split his recent season between the Brantford Titans of the Greater Ontario Hockey League and the North Bay Battalion of the Ontario Hockey League.
He recorded seven points in 15 games with Brantford and two assists in 20 appearances with North Bay.
Sharks Add Size Across Multiple Positions
The historic selection capped a busy draft period for San Jose, which had previously traded its 62nd and 120th picks to the Philadelphia Flyers to move up on Day 1.
With the 127th pick in the fourth round, the Sharks drafted goaltender Brady Knowling, a 6-foot-5 dual U.

Knowling posted a 15-13-3-1 record with the U. S.
National Team Development Program's U-18 squad.
San Jose also selected center Jake Gustafson at No. 174 overall in the sixth round.
Gustafson, a San Jose native and son of SAP Center senior vice president Jon Gustafson, stands 6-foot-4.

He recorded 25 points in 68 games with Portland of the Western Hockey League last season.
