Red Bull KTM Ajo rider Collin Veijer will start Sunday's Moto2 race at the TT Circuit Assen from 14th position.

The 20-year-old Dutchman secured a direct spot in Q2 on Friday but struggled to put together a perfect lap during Saturday's qualifying session.

Veijer finished sixth in the morning free practice with a time of 1 minute and 35.793 seconds, using worn tires for race preparation.

However, afternoon conditions proved more difficult as air temperatures rose to 33 degrees Celsius and track temperatures reached 46 degrees Celsius.

In Q2, Veijer managed a fastest lap of 1 minute and 35.831 seconds across his eight laps, placing him on the fifth row of the grid.

"The plan was good, but the first laps did not go as we expected," Veijer said.

Despite the result, the Staphorst native expressed confidence in his race pace and motivation to fight through the field in front of his home crowd.

"I am not really satisfied. The morning session was certainly not bad, but I think we did not approach qualifying optimally.

The plan was good, only the first laps did not go as we expected. During the second run it was very difficult to improve my lap time further.

It is what it is. On Sunday we will give everything for the home crowd.

I know we have the speed here and I will do everything to ride a strong race.

Racing in front of your home crowd always gives extra motivation, so we need to use that energy," Veijer added.

The 22-lap Moto2 race is scheduled to start at 12:15 p. m.
