Mercedes driver George Russell claimed his second victory of the 2026 Formula 1 season at the Austrian Grand Prix on Sunday, June 28, narrowing his championship deficit to teammate Kimi Antonelli to 40 points.

Russell's Resilience Pays Off
"It feels like a long time ago, to be honest," said Russell.
"It's been a tough couple of months with some really tricky races, with races that felt like everything was going against me, then some races with some tough performances."
He acknowledged the challenge of racing against a strong teammate.
"Obviously, I've got a really incredible team-mate next to me, who week in, week out is delivering some pretty spectacular performances."
Russell noted that his recent performances helped rebuild his psychological momentum ahead of the upcoming race at Silverstone.
"The tough races definitely test you psychologically.
And these last two weekends for me have been vitally important to remind myself I can do it."
Despite the victory, Russell expressed uncertainty about consistently aligning the vehicle's setup.
"I have less confidence in being able to get everything aligned with the car, the set-up and the tyres, because it's just been so up and down for me."
