British tennis player Alicia Dudeney is set to make her Grand Slam main-draw debut at Wimbledon on Monday after being awarded a singles wild card.

The 23-year-old from Brighton has climbed from outside the top 1,000 to No. 245 in the world rankings just 13 months after graduating from the University of Florida.

Dudeney secured her entry by winning seven World Tennis Tour W15 titles, including four in Monastir, Tunisia, and capturing 25 of 27 matches between March and May this year.

She stands out as the only first-timer and sole female player among the six British women granted singles wild cards who deferred turning professional in favor of American collegiate sports.

Dudeney previously reached the Wimbledon girls' singles quarterfinals in 2021 and secured her first senior grass-court victory this month at the WTA 125 event in Ilkley.

"I was actually in Nottingham when I found out," Dudeney said. "I was just incredibly excited.

It's been my dream to play here, and I was just overwhelmed and really happy."

She expressed a desire to maximize her grass-court season while continuing to develop her professional game.

"It's my dream to play here, but I also want to do well," she added.

"Obviously, I've only been doing this a year, so hopefully I've still got a lot left to go."

Reflecting on her time in the United States, Dudeney noted she was not entirely sure what to expect before compiling an 89-36 singles record and earning a business degree.
