Fonseca Reflects on Grass Court Adaptation
Prior to the match, the Rio de Janeiro native discussed his progression on grass during a press conference.
"At the beginning, in juniors and my first professional years, it was hard to adapt, but each year I learned faster and more easily," Fonseca said.
He noted that his recent doubles performance alongside German partner Daniel Altmaier in Halle, where they finished as runners-up, significantly aided his preparation despite an early singles exit and a withdrawal from Eastbourne due to shoulder discomfort.
"This year in Halle, adaptation came a bit after my first-round loss in singles. Playing doubles helped me feel the grass better and improve my serve.
Unfortunately I couldn't play Eastbourne, but I'm feeling good on grass. Every day I play a little better on it," Fonseca added.
Fonseca emphasized that lower body movement and positioning are essential on grass to generate power against fast-moving balls, citing top players as benchmarks.
