It's just tough to fight every point, and you come out on the losing side. But that's sport."

The defeat marked Norrie's earliest exit from the grass-court Grand Slam tournament since 2018.

"It always stinks to lose, especially at Wimbledon, my favorite tournament in the world, a tournament I always play so well at," said Norrie.

"I played well today.

I think it just takes probably a week or so for this kind of loss to get over.

There's no hiding from it. Yeah, it stinks."

World No. 1 Jannik Sinner expressed sympathy for the British players, particularly his friend Jack Draper, after surviving his own first-round match against Miomir Kecmanovic.

"It's a tough one," said Sinner. "For Jack, I talked with him before the tournament.

I practiced with him before he went to Eastbourne. I felt like he was hitting the ball very clean with a very good speed.

I always say personally when he is at his best, he's one of the best players in the world.

He has shown this already so many times."

Sinner acknowledged the frustration of managing consecutive injuries throughout a professional career.

"When you struggle with injuries like this, I just got to know five minutes before I was doing press outside, it's tough because he is one of my friends," said Sinner.

"You don't wish anyone hard luck like he had throughout his whole career until now. I hope he will find a way.

Maybe it's just prevention-wise. I don't know.
