National law enforcement representatives highlighted that the cross-border nature of these offenses requires unified action from all agencies.

Deputy Chief Nick Milinovich of Peel Regional Police said, "Organized crime operates without regard for jurisdictional boundaries, and our response must be the same.

Extortion has a serious impact on victims and communities, and we are committed to addressing this harm through targeted enforcement and strong partnerships across the country."

Milinovich added that the joint effort sends a firm warning to criminal networks operating within Canadian communities.

"We are sending a clear message that those who threaten the safety of our communities will be pursued and brought to justice.

We extend our appreciation to the Edmonton Police Service for their assistance in this investigation," he said.

Federal border enforcement officials confirmed they rely on diverse intelligence networks to track suspects related to these extortion rings.

Kristine Conroy, assistant director with CBSA’s Intelligence and Enforcement Operations Division, said, "Nation-wide as of June 18, 2026, the CBSA has opened 484 immigration investigations, we have issued 139 removal orders and have removed 81 individuals from the country that have some nexus to extortion related activities."

Conroy noted that the agency coordinates closely with local task forces and public leads to manage enforcement actions.

Stewart added, "We’ve been investigating extortion networks and their multi-jurisdictional linkages in Canada for some time now, and we have established a coordinated approach with a focus on effective intelligence collection, sharing, and enforcement action across provinces.

In this investigation, we’re especially grateful to Canada Border Services Agency (CBSA) and the Peel Regional Police for their close collaboration, which led to Singh’s arrest and the connection to violent occurrences on the other side of the country."
