The debut novel achieved immense success, securing the top spot on the New York Times Young Adult bestseller list.

It also earned Adeyemi a place on the Forbes 30 Under 30 list.

"That was my experience as a child. Children of Blood and Bone is a chance to address that.

To say you are seen," she said.

Responding to a fan online, Adeyemi clarified that she does not oppose audiences viewing the film but needs to protect her own well-being.

"I do not mind anyone going to watch the film. I wrote this for us.

I fought for us.
