Chapman landed on the 10-day injured list on Wednesday after suffering an abdominal strain during an 8-2 loss against the Arizona Diamondbacks in Phoenix.
Before his injury, Chapman explained that the abdominal discomfort had been a recurring issue during recent weeks.
"It’s been hot and cold where I’m trying to figure out what’s going on," Chapman said.
The veteran third baseman described the exact moment the injury forced him out of the game following a defensive play in the sixth inning.
"I made that bare-handed play and that was the first time that one specific play made me cringe and go down a little bit, where I was actually in a lot of pain."
Chapman is currently batting . 235 on the season with seven home runs and 42 runs batted in, while Schmitt is batting .
