Planned Trilogy with Season 3
The creative team revealed that they designed the second and third seasons simultaneously to structure a complete narrative arc, planning to conclude the series after three seasons.
"It's one of those things that you have to sort of be on both sides.
You have to write something that has a definitive ending, but you also have to lay some breadcrumbs in case you continue the story.
But being off-book for the second season literally scared the shit out of me, because we didn't save anything in the book.
We blew through everything. We were like, 'I don't know if we're going to do any more of this.
Let's not hold anything back.'
So, usually when I stare at the blank page, it's for a novel, which I can take years and years and years to do, but this blank page was asking to be filled very, very quickly," said Crouch.
The second season picks up with protagonist Jason Dessen, played by Joel Edgerton, his wife Daniela, portrayed by Jennifer Connelly, and their son Charlie, played by Oakes Fegley, as they attempt to build a quiet life in a new universe.
Lead actor Joel Edgerton discussed the emotional state of the family entering the new season.
"After everything that happened in season one, [they're trying to] find some sense of normalcy," said Edgerton.
"And in the spirit of the themes of the show, [there's] the sense that you can't really go back and have a do-over.
