Last year, 71 kids from first to sixth grade turned out for flag football.

The program relies on community volunteers, and children of volunteer coaches play for free.

Blankenship acknowledged the constant need for volunteers, sometimes requiring extra effort to find enough coaches and referees.

Registration fees remain at $40 for soccer and $50 for flag football to keep the programs affordable.

"Our goal is not necessarily to make money off this," Blankenship said. "It's just kind of more to cover the cost of the jerseys and referees."

Incident in Centralia

In Centralia, Washington, 54-year-old Stacey R.

Radcliff was arrested Tuesday after allegedly threatening neighborhood children playing soccer with a short-barreled shotgun on Ives Road.

She pleaded not guilty Thursday to felony charges including second-degree assault and unlawful possession of a short-barreled shotgun.

Bail was set at $100,000 ahead of a tentative September trial.
