FOX Sports analyst Alexi Lalas has publicly endorsed Pep Guardiola as the ideal candidate for the United States Men's National Team head coach position.
He made the comments on May 19-20, 2026.

Lalas stated that the United States Soccer Federation would be unwise to overlook the Manchester City manager once Mauricio Pochettino's contract expires.
Timing Aligns with World Cup End
The potential managerial transition aligns with the conclusion of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in June.
Pochettino currently holds a two-year contract signed in September 2024, paying him $6 million annually.
That agreement runs through August 2026, creating a post-tournament vacancy if no extension is reached. Guardiola's contract with Manchester City is scheduled to expire during the same period.
Lalas emphasized that the federation must explore high-caliber options rather than settling for convenient choices.

He noted Guardiola's extensive experience with multiple Premier League titles and Champions League victories.
Guardiola also has a background studying the American soccer landscape while residing in New York during a prior sabbatical.
"If Pep Guardiola is available, you would absolutely make that call. It would be dumb not to attempt contact," said Lalas.
The pursuit faces financial hurdles, as Guardiola's salary expectations significantly exceed historical US Soccer expenditures.
Additionally, while Guardiola has expressed a desire to avoid immediate club management after Manchester City, his interest in international football remains speculative.
