The Chicago Cubs have claimed right-handed pitcher Bryse Wilson off waivers from the Philadelphia Phillies, adding him to the active roster on June 27, 2026.

The move, first reported on June 24, aims to address critical injuries within the Cubs' pitching staff.

To clear a spot on the 40-man roster, the Cubs designated right-hander Christian Roa for assignment.

Roa had been optioned to Triple-A without appearing in a major league game for Chicago.

Wilson, who is out of minor league options, requires an immediate active roster spot as the team deals with multiple starting pitcher losses.

The Cubs recently placed starting pitchers Edward Cabrera and Ben Brown on the injured list on June 24 due to a hamstring strain and neck strain, respectively.

These injuries add to an already depleted rotation.

Cade Horton is out for the season following Tommy John surgery, Jameson Taillon is sidelined by a hamstring injury, and Justin Steele faces setbacks in his rehabilitation from elbow surgery.

Wilson, a nine-year major league veteran, appeared in only one game for the Phillies this season on June 18 against the New York Mets, throwing two scoreless innings before being designated for assignment on June 22.

Over his career with the Braves, Pirates, Brewers, White Sox, and Phillies, the 28-year-old holds a 20-23 record with a 4.80 ERA in 164 games.

The Cubs plan to integrate Wilson into a heavily strained bullpen or use him as a long relief option as they aim to sustain their position in the National League postseason race.
