Multiple wildfires raging along the French Mediterranean coast have destroyed at least 800 hectares of natural areas in the Hérault and Aude departments.

Around 200 people have been temporarily evacuated as a precautionary measure.

According to local authorities, hundreds of firefighters have been deployed to combat the blazes across the region.

The mountainous terrain of southern France has severely restricted road access, prompting officials to deploy firefighting aircraft to drop water from above.

Vegetation fires have also broken out in several other locations, including areas north of Marseille near Rognac and Lançon-Provence.

Near the resort town of Fréjus, located between Saint-Tropez and Cannes, hundreds of tourists were forced to leave their campsite as a precaution early in the evening.

They were allowed to return a few hours later.

Southern France is expected to face another wave of high temperatures in the coming days.

French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu is scheduled to arrive in Marseille today to hold talks with local government officials regarding wildfire prevention and management in the region.
