Investigators from the Major Collision Bureau determined that a white 2015-2020 Mercedes GLA 250 or 45 Series was traveling eastbound on Eglinton Avenue West at a high rate of speed when it ran a red light and struck the Mississauga resident inside the crosswalk.

Paramedics transported the critically injured woman to a local hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

Authorities stated the driver made no attempt to stop or check on the victim's wellbeing, and the vehicle likely sustained extensive front-end, hood, and windshield damage.

Investigators noted that the intersection was busy with several passing vehicles at the time, but there were no visibility issues, heavy traffic, or ongoing construction.

"There's absolutely no reason that anyone who hit a pedestrian, especially at the speed in which we believe this happened, to not know they have struck somebody," said Bell-Morena.

Officials are currently canvassing existing video and dashcam footage, expressing confidence that they will locate the suspect vehicle shortly.

"You know that you hit somebody, lawyer up and turn yourself into police," said Bell-Morena.

Local automotive repair facilities, body shops, and scrap yards are being urged to contact investigators immediately if they encounter a white Mercedes matching the description.

Anyone with information or relevant footage is asked to contact Major Collision Bureau investigators at 905-453-2121, ext.
