I mean, you may not agree with the way he behaves sometimes or what he says. But he's a businessman.
He's a policymaker. He's the man.
I wish we could have him for four more years," Meyers added.
Transparency Concerns
However, the rapid drop in pricing raised immediate transparency concerns among local protestors and community members who questioned the corporate funding sources behind the steep discounts.
"Who is paying for this?" asked Tim Kerns, who demonstrated outside one of the business locations.
Kerns argued that consumers should consider the ethical implications of corporate alignments with political administrations.
"Of course I have sympathy for people who are paying more at the pump.
And it's very hard to feed your families these days because of inflation, but we also have morality, right?
And we have to vote with our dollars just like we vote with our ballots," Kerns added.
Kerns urged the public to investigate why private entities were willing to subsidize corporate fuel costs. "I want Americans to be asking, 'Where is that money coming from?
Why are corporations and businesses willing to subsidize gas 50-cents a gallon for people, to make President Trump look good?'"
Kerns asked.
Other neighborhood residents expressed similar confusion regarding how a 50-cent drop could occur within a 48-hour window.
"I don't know where it's coming from and that was the question, because how did it drop 50-cents in two days?
Because if that's the case, it can go down even further," said Tasha, of Overbrook.
