League One side Oxford United is reportedly considering former Wales captain Aaron Ramsey as a leading candidate for their vacant managerial position.

The club is searching for a permanent successor after the unexpected dismissal of Matt Bloomfield.

According to local media outlet the Oxford Mail, senior club officials have held preliminary discussions with the 35-year-old former Arsenal and Juventus midfielder.

Local journalist Malachi Obrey also reported on social media that progress is being made behind the scenes regarding a potential appointment at the Kassam Stadium.

Ramsey retired from playing in April after a stint with Mexican club UNAM.

He has limited managerial experience, having briefly served as interim manager for Cardiff City during their recent relegation from the Championship.

To prepare for a full-time coaching career, Ramsey is currently studying for his UEFA Pro Licence and has spent time observing Wales national team manager Craig Bellamy.

Bellamy expressed strong confidence in Ramsey's coaching credentials, tipping him as a future manager of the national team while Bellamy himself is linked with a move to Burnley.

"I'm pretty sure of it and I'm pretty sure one day you'll be speaking to him here (as Wales manager)," Bellamy said.

He clarified that his opinion was not an immediate recommendation for the national post but emphasized the long-term asset Ramsey would be to any team.

"I just believe he's going to be that talented and I believe he's going to be a big asset to whoever he's with and I'd like to see that with Wales one day.

I don't know when, could be two years, four years, 40 years, but I believe we might see that one day," Bellamy added.
