Ford's Mustang Mach-E, the only electric vehicle the company still sells in America, may not survive into a second generation.
Recent comments from the automaker suggest the model's future is uncertain.

The current Mustang Mach-E will remain on sale through at least 2027. A report from last year indicated the model might not receive meaningful upgrades until after 2030.
However, even that timeline is not guaranteed.
New Platform, No Mach-E
Ford is promoting its new Universal EV platform, set to launch next year with a compact pickup truck.
During a Q&A session, Ford was asked directly if the new architecture would underpin a future Mustang Mach-E.

The answer was clear: “No, it will not be used for the Mustang Mach-E. This platform was built from a clean sheet to maximize vehicle efficiency.”
Ford CEO Jim Farley has admitted the company went about creating its first generation of EVs, including the Mustang Mach-E, in the “wrong way.”
The new platform will be used by several other Ford models, including an all-electric Ford Escape expected toward the end of the decade.
If Ford decides to keep selling the Mach-E until 2030 or beyond, it could quickly feel outdated compared to the company's second-generation EVs.

The arrival of the electric Escape may further limit the Mach-E's appeal.
