International outlets including The Australian and The New Statesman lauded the thematic elements, while The Globe and Mail highlighted its grounded character exploration.

"It is a brave thing, in our polarised, warring and fearful world, to create a TV series whose message seems to be: no, actually, everything would not be better if we could all just get along," The New Statesman wrote.

The Globe and Mail described the show as "a methodical and sometimes meditative study of humanity with elements of a psychological sci-fi thriller."

In a joint interview with Deadline, Gilligan shared updates on script development and reassured audiences that the nuclear cliffhanger would remain central.

"I'm looking forward to shooting this, and people seeing it, because I'm kind of digging it," Gilligan said.
