Subaru is increasing prices on its extended warranty plans by as much as 16 percent, with the change taking effect for new coverage starting August 1.

The automaker blames rising labor and parts costs, as well as state-mandated repair claim reimbursements that exceed its own warranty guidelines.

A dealer bulletin reveals that the Subaru Added Security warranty will become more expensive across all models.

The increase varies by vehicle, with some models seeing a flat $182 jump.

Price Changes by Model

The BRZ, Impreza, Forester, and Outback will see a minimum increase of $88, an average bump of 8.3 percent.

The Uncharted, Solterra, and Trailseeker climb 9.3 percent, or $50.

The steepest increase lands on the Ascent, WRX, Crosstrek Hybrid, and Forester Hybrid, where the price jumps 16 percent, or $182.

Coverage still extends up to 10 years or 100,000 miles.

Two warranty versions are available: the Classic Plan and the Gold Plus Plan.

The Classic Plan covers the engine, transmission, and all-wheel-drive system for terms between 7 years/70,000 miles and 10 years/100,000 miles.

Gold Plus adds coverage for brakes, electrical systems, suspension, air conditioning, and steering.

With the average new car price in the US near $50,000, added ownership costs could dampen sales or strain budgets.
