Toyota has announced a $3.6 billion investment in its San Antonio, Texas plant to add a second assembly line dedicated to the Tacoma mid-size pickup.

Production is expected to start in 2030, with an annual capacity of around 150,000 units.

Expansion Details

The investment will double the plant's size by adding 2.5 million square feet.

The new line will create over 2,000 jobs and allow the Tacoma to be built alongside the Tundra and Sequoia.

The facility recently added a rear axle plant as well.

As Tacoma production moves to the U. S.

, assembly at Toyota's Baja California plant in Mexico will phase out over about four years.

However, the company said it remains committed to production in Mexico, Canada, and the U. S.

Toyota's Guanajuato plant in Mexico, which also builds the Tacoma, is not affected by this change.

The automaker emphasized it will continue building the truck in Mexico for years to come.

Toyota Motor North America CEO Ted Ogawa stated that the investment reflects confidence in the region's workforce and innovation.

Texas Governor Greg Abbott noted the expansion was supported by state programs to attract jobs and investment.
